Wind damage roof repair in Dallas
The shingles in the yard are the easy part. The ones still on the roof with a crease across them are the ones that leak next spring.

Quick answer
Wind damage roof repair in Dallas replaces blown-off shingles, finds and replaces the creased tabs around them, resets or replaces lifted ridge cap, and reattaches drip edge and fascia the gusts pulled loose. Straight-line winds in North Texas storms regularly pass 60 mph, and the damage concentrates on the windward slope and the ridge. We tarp first if water is getting in.
The job
How wind takes a roof apart
Wind gets under the edge of a shingle tab, lifts it, and either tears it off or folds it back until the mat cracks along the crease. A creased shingle lies flat again when the wind stops and looks fine from the street, then leaks the next time it rains sideways. Ridge caps go first because they are the highest point and hold the least sealant.
The repair is finding all of it, not just the gaps, so we lift tabs by hand on the windward slope and check the seal strip on every course.

Blown-off shingles
Missing tabs expose the nail line of the course below and the underlayment, and rain finds the nail holes within a storm or two. We replace the missing shingles by lifting the course above, removing the torn remnant and its nails, sliding a new matching shingle in, and re-nailing on the line. Color matching matters on a visible slope, so we bring the closest current product and show you the match before it goes on. Exposed nail lines are sealed the same visit.

Creased and lifted tabs
A tab that has folded back and returned has a crease across it that will crack. On a walk we lift every tab on the storm-facing slope; the creased ones pull away without resistance because the seal strip has broken. Each one is replaced. A slope with more than a scattering of them is written for replacement, because the seal strips have failed across the slope and the next storm will finish the job. That call is made on the roof, with the photos to back it.

Missing ridge cap
Ridge and hip caps take the most wind and the most heat, and a few missing caps after a storm is the most common repair we do in April. We replace them with matching cap shingles, nailed and hand-sealed, and re-seat the ridge vent underneath if it lifted. Old three-tab caps cut from field shingles are replaced with proper high-profile caps that hold better. The ridge is the first thing we check after any gust event, because a run of missing caps opens the whole attic to rain, and it is the last thing we hand-seal before leaving.

Detached drip edge and fascia
Gusts that reach up under the eave pull the drip edge away and take the fascia with it, which then drops the gutter. We re-secure or replace the drip edge, refasten or replace the fascia board, and re-hang the gutter at pitch. Where the starter course lifted with the drip edge it is re-set so the eave is sealed again before the next front comes through. Where the fascia board itself has split it is replaced rather than screwed back, because a cracked board will not hold the gutter through the next storm.

What we see on Dallas roofs
Straight-line winds in Ellis County reached 75 to 80 mph on March 8, 2025, taking the east wall off a metal grocery building in Ennis and partially removing a home roof east of Waxahachie, and the same front brought quarter-size hail. That is why we check the windward slope tab by tab rather than counting shingles in the yard. In the April 25, 2026 storm, 60 mph gusts pushed hail sideways into gutters across the metro, so wind and hail damage often arrive together on one claim.
Budget
What a wind repair costs and what moves it
Wind repairs are priced by the shingles and caps replaced, plus any fascia and gutter work.
- Shingle count
A dozen tabs is an afternoon; a slope of creased tabs is a replacement.
- Ridge cap length
Priced by the foot of cap replaced.
- Tarping
Emergency tarping is a separate visit when water is coming in.
- Color match
Discontinued colors may push a slope to replacement for matching.
- Fascia and gutter
Reattaching is minor; replacing board or gutter is quoted.
- Roof age
Brittle old shingles break when lifted, which limits repair.
- Claim or cash
Widespread damage is usually a claim; small repairs are often cheaper than the deductible.
Questions we get
Wind damage questions from Dallas homeowners
Often not; a small repair can cost less than your deductible. You get the number and decide.
Creased tabs leak later. Replacing only the missing ones leaves the damage in place.
Usually with a current product from the same maker, shown to you before install.
Yes, first, when water is coming in, and the repair is scheduled after.
Wind is a covered peril on most Texas policies. We document it slope by slope.
Within a few days. Exposed nail lines leak in the next rain.
If it lifted, it is re-seated or replaced before the caps go back.
If the seal strip broke, yes. We test by lifting; a sealed tab resists.
Shingles in the yard? Have the rest of the slope checked
We replace what blew off and find what creased, so the repair holds through the next front.
