Storm and emergency
Hail damage roof repair in Dallas
Hail bruises do not leak the week of the storm. They leak next spring, after the granules wash off and the mat cracks.

Quick answer
Hail damage roof repair in Dallas starts with an inspection that marks every bruise, cracked shingle and dented vent with chalk and a photo, slope by slope. Under about eight hits per square on one slope the fix is usually a repair; above it the slope or roof is replaced, and the documentation becomes your insurance claim. We meet the adjuster on the roof and handle supplements.
The job
What hail actually does to a Dallas roof
A hailstone knocks the granules off where it hits and bruises the fiberglass mat underneath. The bruise is soft to the thumb the day after and cracks over a few hot months. Metal takes it differently: dented vents, split boots, gutters pocked like a golf ball.
Slopes facing the storm take the worst of it, so one side of a roof is often a total loss while the other is fine.

Granule loss and bruised shingles
We walk every slope with chalk, circling each hit inside a ten-by-ten test square so the count is visible in the photos. A bruise is confirmed by touch, not by looks, because a blister from sun looks the same from a distance. Gutters full of granules are a tell. When the count on a slope crosses the threshold most carriers use, that slope is written for replacement rather than patching. The count, not the size of the stones, is what the scope is written from.

Dented vents, flashing and gutters
Soft metal records hail better than shingles do, so a dented turbine, a pocked pipe boot or a hammered gutter is often the evidence that gets a claim approved. We photograph every one. The repair replaces the vents and boots with new metal, re-seals the flashing where the dents broke the sealant, and re-hangs or replaces gutter runs that no longer hold pitch. Nothing is replaced with a lesser gauge than what was there, and window screens and AC fins go in the same report.

Hail inspection and documentation
The report you get is the one the adjuster sees: a slope diagram, the test-square counts, photos of every collateral hit, and a written scope with the shingle, underlayment and vents named. We do not file the claim for you and never sign anything at the door. If the roof is not damaged enough to claim, we say so in the same report and you keep it for the next storm. The report is emailed to you with the full photo set attached in full resolution.

Repair versus replacement after hail
A few hits on one slope, on a roof under ten years old, is a repair: damaged shingles are cut out and matching GAF, Owens Corning or CertainTeed shingles woven in. Widespread bruising, or a roof past fifteen years that will not take a repair without breaking, is a replacement, usually of the whole roof because carriers pay for matching. The report says which it is and why, before any adjuster is involved. Either way the decision is written down with the counts that support it, so you can hand it to anyone.

What we see on Dallas roofs
The April 25, 2026 storm dropped hail from quarter to tennis-ball size across Dallas, Collin, Denton and Tarrant counties, with the worst core through the central and eastern Metroplex and 60 mph gusts pushing it sideways into siding and gutters. East side roofs that took that storm broadside are the ones we are still finding cracked mat on in September. North Texas sits inside hail alley and the metro is hit almost every year, so a roof that was fine last year is not fine by default now.
Budget
What a hail repair costs, and who pays
These factors decide whether hail work is a repair or a claim.
- Hit count per slope
Below the carrier threshold it is a repair; above it, a claim.
- Roof age
Old shingles break when lifted, pushing a repair into a replacement.
- Matching
Discontinued colors mean the whole roof, not one slope.
- Collateral metal
Vents, boots, gutters and screens add line items.
- Deductible
Texas policies usually set it as a percentage of dwelling coverage.
- Policy type
Replacement cost pays the roof; actual cash value subtracts depreciation.
- Timing
Demand after a metro-wide storm stretches schedules for months.

Questions we get
Hail questions Dallas homeowners ask us
From the ground you mostly cannot; granules in the gutter and dented vents are hints, the roof walk is the answer.
Policies vary; most set a window measured in months. Do not wait for a leak.
Weather claims are treated differently from at-fault claims, but carriers vary; ask your agent.
No. Get an inspection report first; you owe nobody anything.
On a newer roof with few hits, yes. Old shingles break when lifted.
We provide the photos and counts for a re-inspection.
No. Deductible waivers are illegal in Texas.
Yes; you pay the difference, and it usually earns a premium discount.
