Quick answer
Penfold Construction runs its Ellis County work from its head office on W. Crockett Street in Ennis and repairs and replaces roofs across the city. Wind is the big risk here: on March 8, 2025, winds of 75 to 80 mph tore the roof off a hotel in Ennis, so we check edges, ridges and metal buildings as carefully as hail damage.
Ennis
The March 2025 storm
On March 8, 2025, straight-line winds of 75 to 80 mph hit Ennis, tearing the roof off a hotel and leaving about 6,000 Ellis County residents without power, while the same storms blew a wall off a grocery store and removed a roof east of Waxahachie. Wind like that finds every loose edge, so our wind repairs start at the eaves, rakes and ridge.
The town
A railroad and cotton town
Ennis grew up around the Houston and Texas Central Railway, which arrived in 1871, and Czech families who began settling here in 1873 made it one of the largest Czech communities in Texas, home of the National Polka Festival. The Texas Legislature named it the Bluebonnet City in 1997, and about 60 of its houses and buildings are listed with the Texas Historical Commission. Older homes, farm buildings and commercial roofs sit side by side, so we roof all three, including metal roofs and barns and shops.
