Ductless mini split cleaning for Jacksonville homes

Deep cleaning of indoor heads, including the coil and blower wheel, plus the outdoor unit, to clear the buildup that causes musty smells, drips and weak airflow.

Updated September 2026

Quick answer

How often should a mini split be deep cleaned in Jacksonville, FL?

Mini splits in Jacksonville generally benefit from a deep cleaning about once a year, sometimes more for heads that run constantly, because humid air lets dust and growth build up on the coil and blower wheel inside the head. Washing the filters every few weeks between cleanings helps a lot.

What is included

Every mini split deep cleaning includes

  • Walls and floors protected
  • Filters washed
  • Coil cleaned and rinsed
  • Blower wheel cleaned
  • Drain pan and line flushed
  • Outdoor coil cleaned
  • Electrical connections checked
  • Head tested for airflow and drainage

Overview

Filters aren't the whole story

Mini split heads have washable filters, but dust and moisture still reach the coil and the long blower wheel behind them. In humid conditions, that buildup turns into a gray mat and dark growth on the wheel's blades, which is where musty smells, reduced airflow and dripping often start.

A deep cleaning goes past the filters. We protect the wall and floor with a cleaning bag under the head, clean the coil and blower wheel with a coil-safe solution, flush the drain pan and line, and clean the outdoor unit's coil. The head is reassembled and tested so it runs quieter, fresher and stronger.

What we fix

Indoor head deep cleaning

The head's front panel and filters come off, a waterproof cleaning bag goes underneath to catch runoff, and the coil is cleaned with a solution made for evaporator coils and rinsed with low pressure. The drain pan and line are flushed so water flows freely. Covers and electronics are protected throughout. When we're done, the head is reassembled and run to confirm airflow and drainage. Most homeowners notice the fresher smell right away. The filters are washed and dried before going back in.

Blower wheel cleaning

The blower wheel is a long barrel of thin blades that collects buildup you can't see from the front. Once it's coated, airflow drops and the head can start throwing dark flecks or smelling musty. We clean the wheel thoroughly in place or remove it when the model allows, which is where most of the improvement in smell and airflow comes from. You'll see the before and after photos of the wheel, which usually explains the smell better than anything we could say.

Outdoor unit cleaning

The outdoor unit's coil collects dust, pollen and, near the coast, salt, which reduces efficiency. We clean the coil gently from the inside out where the design allows, clear debris from around the unit, check the fan and electrical connections, and make sure the unit has enough clearance. A clean outdoor coil lets the whole system run less for the same comfort. Near the coast, we note any early corrosion for future visits. The area around it is cleared so air can flow freely.

Mini split cleaning in San Marco

Many San Marco homes from the 1920s rely on mini split heads because their thick walls and finished interiors never took ductwork well. Those heads often run most of the year in rooms that matter, which means buildup on the coil and blower wheel accumulates steadily. Regular deep cleaning keeps them fresh and efficient, and we're careful with the plaster walls and finishes below each head while we work.
